Soup/Bowl

2018

Another project in our ongoing love affair with the Dane County Farmers Market (and farmers markets in general)!

For SOUP | BOWL we first collaborated with ceramicist Grant Gustafson to produce a run of beautiful ceramic bowls with our ampersand in the bottom.  His work was funded by a Blink! Grant from the Madison Arts Commission.

We gave the bowls away to several hundred farmers during the market, along with an invitation to come share soup and bread at the nearby venue Maiaspace, owned by Chele Isaac and John Nies.

For this meal, we prepared 200 servings (12 gallons) of soup using butternut squash we had grown ourselves.  We also baked 200 rolls using the sourdough that Spatula&Barcode have been cultivating since 2015. We were aided in making this project by Alex Donnelly, Kel Mur, Lars Johnson, Libby LaDue, Katelyn Palesek, and Zoe Klein.

We also served local varietal apple cider that was donated from the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems by Michelle Miller.

Photographs of the event were taken by Maryam Ladoni. Special thanks to market manager Sarah Elliot for working with us on logistics.
